Barbara L. Clark, retired nurse
Barbara L. Clark, 70, of Harbeson passed away unexpectedly in her home Friday, Nov. 27, 2020.
Barbara was born in Lansdowne, Pa., daughter of the late Rudy MacKara and Edna (Hemple) MacKara MacIntyre.
Barbara graduated from Lankenau School of Nursing in 1970 and spent the majority of her nursing career as the nursing director with the HMS School for Children with Cerebral Palsy in Philadelphia, Pa.. After 27 years with HMS, and wanting to step back from the administrative side of nursing, she cared for children at St. Edmond Home for Handicapped Children in Bryn Mawr. After Barbara retired and relocated to Harbeson, she continued working as a private-duty nurse for handicapped children with Bayada.
Along with her husband Walt, Barbara enjoyed sailing. She and Walter spent many years sailing the Chesapeake Bay back and forth and up the Atlantic coast to New York and down the intercoastal waterway to North Carolina. Whether sailing, fishing or enjoying time in the Florida Keys, she especially loved being on the water. Barbara was an active member of Lewes Presbyterian Church.
Barbara is survived by her husband Walt, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August; three daughters, Cheryl Porreca and husband John, Cindy Popelas and husband Carl, and Katie Clark Flowe and husband Charlie; six grandchildren, Julia Popelas, John Popelas, Joey Porreca, Courtney Popelas, Ava Popelas and Allie Flowe; a brother, Richard MacKara; and a half-sister, Lisa Bell.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m., at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes. Due to COVID, attendance must be limited to reservation only. Please reserve at waltsailor@comcast.net. All attending must wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
